On May 10, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will celebrate a remarkable milestone. We have been sparking curiosity for 75 years! From our beloved fulldome theater here in Chapel Hill to schools and communities across the state, we are proud to advance equitable and inclusive science learning and exploration for all.
Morehead was dedicated in 1949 as a powerful tool for the education of North Carolinians. True to our founding mission, we continue to serve North Carolina and beyond by bringing together the unique resources of UNC to engage the public for an enhanced understanding of science. We partner with UNC scientists to develop outstanding planetarium shows, exhibits, classes, camps, and other programs that allow visitors to experience the wonder of science. We show visitors why science matters and how research happening today will change lives tomorrow.

Annual Fund

School and Camp Scholarship Fund
Every year thousands of children benefit from Morehead programming like field trips and summer camps. For some, this opportunity isn’t available. Your gift supports scholarships for schools and students in need, allowing us to advance equitable and inclusive science learning and exploration for all.
Visitor Experience Fund
Morehead’s recent renovation created new and improved facilities that enable us to provide out-of-this-world informal science education. But the work isn’t finished. Your gift supports investments in technology, interactive exhibits, and public spaces that help make a visit to Morehead truly wonderful.
