Morehead-Cain Scholarship Program

The Morehead-Cain Scholarship Program is the first merit-based scholarship established at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and remains one of the most prestigious undergraduate scholarships in the nation. Founded in 1945, the Program identifies, invests in, and empowers exceptional young leaders of character, intellect, and purpose.

Morehead-Cain Scholars receive a fully funded undergraduate experience, enriched by distinctive summer enrichment opportunities, leadership development, and lifelong membership in a global community. Scholars are selected not only for academic excellence, but also for moral force of character, leadership, physical vigor, and commitment to service.

Gifts to the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Program sustain this transformative experience—ensuring that future generations of scholars can learn deeply, lead boldly, and make a meaningful impact at Carolina and beyond.
