THRIVE Program
The UNC Transforming Health and Resilience in Veterans (THRIVE) Program is a no-cost clinical outreach initiative for veterans, active-duty military and first responders suffering from the effects of TBI, PTSD and related health concerns. The THRIVE Program delivers an interdisciplinary assessment and personal care plan to restore health, function and resilience. Since 2022, our 3-day evaluation has served more than 380 people ages 20–80+ and our 3-week Intensive Outpatient Program has treated more than 80 participants since 2023. Your donation will help us reach more of those who have selflessly served our country.
Center for Student Success
The Center for Student Success enables all Carolina students to develop the skills and strategies needed to prosper academically, socially and professionally while at Carolina and after graduation. The Center fosters equal access to success across student populations through several programs: Summer Bridge, the Writing and Learning Center, Carolina Firsts, Peer Mentoring and Transfer Student Services. To better serve students, the College is moving the Center to the House Undergraduate Library in the heart of campus, increasing the Center’s space by 10,000 sq. ft. Renovations are scheduled to kickoff in summer 2026, with plans for the Center to open in their new location in spring 2027.
Dr. J. Kimball King Distinguished Professorship
Named in honor of the late English professor J. Kimball King, a prolific scholar who was known for his approachability, his genuine interest in students’ literary tastes and his belief that great literature gives voice to feelings worthy of deep exploration. The Dr. J. Kimball King Distinguished Professorship will support a faculty member whose teaching and scholarship cultivate appreciation of and deeper connection with literature.
While at Carolina, the College of Arts and Sciences encouraged me to see connections everywhere and provided me with the freedom to explore intersections across disciplines. By blending my studies in biology, chemistry, and Spanish with courses in writing and storytelling, I discovered how stories can make science and healthcare feel more human.
